A genetic system for studying nervous system regeneration.

Project description

Cnidarians (nessledyr) have an amazing capacity to regenerate missing body parts or specific types of cells. We use a genetic system for the ablation of nerve cells to understand how the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis regenerates its nervous system. In this project we aim to adapt this system for use in animals of different ages.

Tasks

You are involved in inducing spawning (gamete production) of the genetically modified sea anemones, in the identification of animals carrying the genetic modifications, and the ablation of the nerve cells.

Starting date/period: Feb 2026
